Stressed About Your Audition? Here are Tips for a Great Audition

How to Prep for a Great Audition

  1. Find That Audition –  There are many resources online for finding an audition and you can always follow ELTC on Facebook for the latest local audition information.  
  2. Research – Look on Youtube or other platforms and watch a version of the play or musical. It is important that you understand the context of the work and your character.
  3. The Ideal Piece – Choose a great audition piece! It needs to  reflect your personality as much as possible as well as showing off your skills – and you need to love it!
  4. Prepare – Practice, practice, practice those audition pieces and run through them several times in front of an audience. 
  5. Scheduling – Try not to schedule your audition with your friends.  This will you help focus on your audition and not socializing with those around you. 
  6. Eat Well – Eat some slow burning fuel before you audition – something that will keep you going.  Protein and low GI foods are perfect to keep your energy levels up.
  7. Watch The Nerves – Remember your nerves can work for you to give you the adrenaline you need. If you find them hard to deal with, find what works for your to make sure you are in the perfect state of mind. 
  8. Remember – The people watching you audition want you to be amazing! They want to find the perfect person for their role so they are wanting you to be what they are looking for. 
  9. Be Yourself – No one can do ‘you’, so make sure you show them what is special about you.
  10. Have Fun! – If you are not enjoying your performance it will show, so take the opportunity to enjoy the spotlight and really get into your flow.
  11. Don’t Give Up –  Remember you are not in control of who gets cast.  There are often so many things that go into the cast that is chosen. You can only control how well you prepare for the audition. If you don’t get this audition, it’s been a great experience and there will be plenty more. Just remember to keep trying and working on your craft.
